The SanGuard High Performance Finish is the result of an effort to find a better way to finish D&F’s equipment in our meat and prepared division. When working with a customer, they were looking for a more easily-cleanable finish than what D&F had provided them in the past. The customer’s suggestion was that we manufacture our equipment without glass beading, and, if possible, entirely eliminate that step.
True to the D&F Equipment Sales commitment of doing “Whatever it Takes,” our team began research, trying to find a way to bridge the gap of glass beading and material smoothness that was acceptable. Eventually, we found a way to bead the material as usual while also successfully reducing the roughness by approximately 11% on structural metals, subsequently making the finish more consistent. The D&F team also tested this finish on 12ga, and we were able to reduce the average Ra to 35-50 micro-inches on gauged metal finishes. After perfecting this process, D&F now achieves an average of Ra 20-40 micro-inches on gauged metals.
Per the chart included (Ra Surface Textures of Stainless Steel Finishes), our brand new SanGuard finish is in the same range of smoothness as Polished, but without the extra cost. This process has been the D&F standard in production since 2016, but as of May 21, 2019, D&F Equipment Sales was awarded Patent No. 10,292,399 for SanGuard, our problem-solving, innovative, High Performance Finish.
